2019-2020 VF Adjustment Period

2019-2020 VF Adjustment Period

On April 4, 2019 Governor Lujan Grisham signed House Bill 512, which will allow Volunteer Firefighter (VF) members to adjust one or more years of unreported service credit earned during the period of January 1, 1984 to December 31, 2018. The adjustment period will begin on June 14, 2019 and members will have until March 31, 2020 to adjust their service credit. Beginning April 1, 2020 the time period a VF member can adjust prior service credit will revert back to the two preceding calendar years, which will be 2017 and 2018.

VF members who would like to participate in this adjustment period will be required to complete and submit a Corrected Qualification Report for VF Form and a Corrected Qualification Record for VF Form. The State Fire Marshal’s Office and PERA will work together to review and approve all adjustment requests. The State Fire Marshal’s Office may request additional documentation to be submitted for approval. Please keep in mind that adjustments will be made within the year and may take a few months to post.

Below is some guidance for the 2019-2020 VF Adjustment Period:

1) Create an online account in PERA’s Retirement Information Online (RIO) self-service website and view your service credits to verify if they are correct: SelfService.

2) After reviewing your service credit, if you find missing service credit please complete and submit a Corrected Qualification Report for VF Form and a Corrected Qualification Record for VF Form to PERA. PERA and/or the State Fire Marshal’s Office will contact you if they have any questions or if additional documentation is required. Otherwise, a letter will be mailed to you once your service credit has been adjusted.
